About Lynchburg College

Lynchburg College is a private college in Lynchburg, which is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with a population of nearly 74 000 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2009 census.

The college was established in 1903 and was founded by Dr. Josephus Hopwood. It presently offers its students a number of 38 majors and 45 minors, as well as 13 pre-professional programs, being ranked by U.S. News & World Report in the top tier of southern colleges and universities, also being included in `Colleges That Change Lives`, by Loren Pope, former education editor of The New York Times.

Athletics

Lynchburg's athletic teams are nicknamed the Fighting Hornets and they compete in 21 NCAA Division III varsity sports, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Their distinctive colors are crimson and gray.
